My Mothers Story
My mom at 55 years old responding well from our morning green juice habit turned out to be the best surprise of 2017.
She had many health issues from the recent years and although she hasn’t been off of her maintenance medicines yet.
She had been recovering well from her series of hospitalization.
After her alarming medical results of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, had mild stroke, had total thyroidectomy (2014), poor blood circulation issues (2016) and her declining energy I know this needs to be addressed by reconfiguring her diet.
I have been reading a lot of articles and asking people where and how should I start the change.
My mom was very hesitant about everything in the beginning but through all efforts (heart to heart conversations) slowly she embraced some changes.
I found Kimberly Snyder and read 4 of her books, it is that good I can’t stop.
You can read more about her in this link: Kimberly Snyder
If I am to pick only one among her books it’s the Beauty Detox Solution.
I highly recommend reading this to have the right perspective and information about how the human digestion works.
For me, it was the right place to start the Wellness Journey for my Mom.
Green Juice Recipe
I adopted her Green Juice recipe
(Yield: 2 glass)
- 2 stalks Celery (including leaves)
- bunch of Kang kong (spinach)/romaine or kale (for beginners I recommend to start with spinach)
- sprig of Parsley (optional)
- 1pc Pear
- 1pc red Apple
- 1pc medium Lemon (peeled)
- 1pc Cucumber (peeled)
All ingredients to be washed thoroughly
If you are diabetic or someone who cannot have natural sugar from fruits, you can substitute it with stevia for the sweetness.
- Hurom Slow Juicer, this extracts the juice very well from the leafy vegetables. You will not have the same extracting result by using a centrifugal juicer.
You can also find a smoothie version of this from her book using a blender or Vitamix.
To convince my mom I started by giving her only a tasting portion of the green juice every morning.
A small serving for her taste bud to get used to it.
I told her this is a good source of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals going straight to her digestive tract.
As days go by I increased her portion until she was able to finish 1 glass a day.
My Mothers Respond
Surprisingly she didn’t complain to me, you know why?
Because she felt that her energy increased.
She can do more chores now compared before.
This is the story she told my cousins during our recent meetup.
Together with the other adjustments, I incorporated within our diet I saw a significant inner glow coming from her now.
She also has a renewed self-confidence and a positive outlook in life compared to before.
This all happened because she became open and willing to do the changes with regards to her health.
She prefers the juice compared to the smoothie version.
Honestly for me as long as she is having the additional nutrients and reaping the health benefits, it is already a good start.
Maybe one day she can shift to the green smoothie.
Everything is a process and a progress.
May we all have a healthy 2018!
